Many visitors are happy to stroll around Shepton Montague and have lunch or
supper at the Montague Inn.
There are other good walks nearby: the Macmillan Way takes you up to
Alfred’s Tower on the Stourhead Estate. Cadbury Castle, an Iron Age hill
fort is another spectacular site.
We are on the borders of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire, so Wells,
Glastonbury, Shaftesbury, and Sherborne are all within 30 minutes.
Bath is 40 minutes away, and Taunton and Salisbury an hour.
Gardeners enjoy visiting Chiff Chaffs and Chaffeymoor, Stourhead,
East Lambrook, Tintinhull, and Long Acre Nursery. Hadspen Garden at
the other end of the village is currently closed.
Boys of all ages appreciate the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton,
and Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford. Mill on the Brue in Bruton is an excellent Outdoor Activity Centre
Shepton Montague is well placed for touring, being 4 miles from the A303.
There are a multitude of places to visit, for all interests in the surrounding
counties of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. Bath and Salisbury are only an hour's drive away.
